Welcome to Integration Steps!

Integrating behavioral health services into primary care practices

Primary care practices are increasingly seeking to integrate behavioral health (BH) services into their setting, in order to:

  • Improve identification of BH conditions;
  • Improve patients' access to high-quality BH care; and
  • Improve coordination between medical and BH providers

However, successful integration of behavioral health services into primary care requires a lot more than simply co-locating behavioral health clinicians into primary care practices. Practices often need to build new screening and referral pathways, and develop new means of interdisciplinary communication. Moreover, it is vital to train providers and staff in all of these new initiatives, keep team members apprised of updates, and providing opportunities for ongoing learning.

The goal of this website is to help address both of these challenges!

Are you a BMC clinician or staff member? The "BMC Teams" link includes resources and information to support collaboration between primary care and behavioral health clinicians working at BMC. Information here is specific to our clinical model and site.

Are you an administrator, medical director, BH director, or clinician at one of our partner practices? The "Practice Leaders" link is a forum for information and resources sharing, to help all of us benefit from each others' experience.
